Rain, Bubbles, and a Floating Dog

Yesterday, I sat on my back porch and listened to the rain pour over my metal roof. The clappity-glap sounds it makes is so refreshing to me. Especially after a hot, but really fun day of fireworks, hot-dogs, and homemade extra yummy potato salad. (That's how we folks in the south spell potato...with no "e" on the end) I just sat there in the cool, hardly humid breeze and took it all in. The back yard, the smell of the summer rain, and the birds and rabbits playing in my back yard. I breathed a sigh of relief, as the calmness poured over me.

But then, being my OCD self, I started to notice it all. The patio bricks were, for lack of better words, disgusting, and there were weeds peeking up through the red painted bricks. Anyone that knows me knows that I am a random person, and before I knew it, I was up, moving patio furniture, breaking out the dawn liquid soap, pulling up weeds and dragging the hosepipe around. Before you could say turnip, I had stripped my back patio of everything on it, spread the dawn all over the patio, and got the old broom and was scrubbing away. I scrubbed until I couldn't scrub any longer, and decided to let the suds "sit" there for a while. Finally, I grabbed my hosepipe, and began rinsing away, but to my demise, I had no idea that dawn, concrete bricks, and water were NOT friends. I had sooo many bubbles out there, my poor dog Pete ( a mini dachshund) was floating around in the massiveness. I was slipping, hollering for my very relaxed, and laid back husband to come help us. All he could do was laugh and hold his sides. The more he laughed the louder and madder I got. My dog was whimpering, I couldn't stand for one minute, and then I decided I had enough. I turned the hosepipe and soaked him down. This just caused him to come out on the slippery patio, and to HIS demise, he could hardly get around either. After what seemed like an eternity, we made it to the outside door, dog and all, and decided to rinse the porch from there.

Needless to say, my back porch is pristine, and smells like the original blue dawn liquid dish detergent, but hey...that makes me happy. After everything was said and done, I realized that amidst the chaos and the bubbles, we had made memories yet again. I think next year, we will just repaint the bricks.
